Pubs We Have Visited

Part of the enjoyment of our walks comes from a congenial pint either part way round the route, perhaps with lunch, or at the end whilst we rest our weary bones. It has been known for us to do both!

We don't ask too much. Somewhere welcoming, warm, with perhaps a real fire in winter and above all some quality real ale. Over the years, we must have visited dozens of pubs and a comment can usually be found in the descriptions of the walks.

The purpose of this page is to bring together some of the more recent comments to one quick reference point.

"Quality" for us is also synonamous with quantity. Not necessarily copious pints (although we do what we can to support the ailing ale industry!) but a glass with a fair proportion of beer to head. We say therefore .............

Below are links to lists of pubs visited indicating the location and when last visited. together with our thoughts. Comments only go back to those establishments visited since about 2003. Pubs/landlords change so comments from 20 years ago are rather pointless. These thoughts represent only our personal view and a snapshot on the day visited. We endeavour to find quality beer, based on recommendation or the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Not surprisingly therefore, most of the comments are boringly positive.

If anyone has visited these pubs more recently and has any update, please email us at olicanatelco@talk21.com

If your pub is listed and you have a website we have missed, email us and we will include the web address.

THE BEER PRAYER

Our beer
Which art in barrels
Hallowed be thy drink

Thy will be drunk
(I will be drunk)
At home as in the tavern

Give us this day our foamy head
And forgive us our spillages,
As we forgive those who spill against us

Lead us not into incarceration
But deliver us from hangovers

For thine is the beer,
The bitter and the mild
For ever and ever
Barmen.
